I have now almost completed my year's placement at Waring and Netts as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant following my graduation from Newcastle University last summer, and I have been lucky to be part of the Education Team. This means I have had the opportunity to work on a range of projects; at early competition stage, progressing on site and after practical completion. I have done a lot of technical work which was a good contrast to my university work, and have also enjoyed training in Revit and use of Sketchup and Photoshop for presentation work.
I am currently working at the planning stage of our recently won Dumfries and Galloway PPP, giving me an insight into Scottish Building Regulations, and hopefully some site visits up in Scotland! - very useful as I am to continue my Part 2 studies in Edinburgh.
Whilst at Waring and Netts I have taken the chance to become involved with our chosen charity for the year, Children North East, volunteering with other members of staff to help redesign and refit Pitt Street Creche in Newcastle.
I have also trained as a Construction Ambassador and, in association with Northern Architecture, am looking forward to helping pupils at Kepier Chare Primary School design their own 'think bubbles' to go on display during Architecture Week... who'd have thought it would be so scary to stand in front of a class of 10 year olds!
