Student Blog
I’m a third year placement student and I have been a part of _space for three months now. Over the passed three months I have experienced big changes in the company (all of them for the best). The biggest changes have been moving from Arcadia House and Hawthorn House to Spaceworks.
Having the whole company under one roof can only be for the better.
I am currently a member of Team 1, which is the Healthcare team. Team 1 has an excellent mix or personalities and everyone has a great sense of humour which is vital for a good working environment. Even though I am in the Healthcare team I have not just worked on Healthcare projects, I have also worked on a hotel project where I had to model a hotel into Revit. Working on many different projects in a range of sectors will help further my experience while I’m here.
I applied to _space because I believed that they were able to offer me the best opportunities to learn new skills such as Photoshop and Sketchup and to also be part of prestigious projects such as Redcar and Cleveland.
Before I joined _space I believed that I was just going to be another face in a large company like previous employers I have worked for, but on my first day I was made to feel welcome and very much a part of the team. I was also invited to my first team night out in Jesmond, which was hilarious and I can’t wait for the next one. That is the first time I have ever heard of a company paying for its staff to go out and have a good time. Also I have never been part of a company that has anything similar to pizza Fridays……….
I am looking forward to a hard, but exciting year ahead of me with the company.

I have now almost completed my year's placement at Waring and Netts as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant following my graduation from Newcastle University last summer, and I have been lucky to be part of the Education Team. This means I have had the opportunity to work on a range of projects; at early competition stage, progressing on site and after practical completion. I have done a lot of technical work which was a good contrast to my university work, and have also enjoyed training in Revit and use of Sketchup and Photoshop for presentation work. more…

Life at Waring and Netts, through the eyes of a student…
Laura Massey
I am a Part One student from The University of Newcastle, where I am taking an additional second year out to gain further practical experience to assist me in my Part Two and continue working on our recent bid win Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trust (PCT)
I was interested in working at Waring and Netts as it seemed to be an exciting time for the company offering lots of opportunities and full of young enthusiastic people, as well as treating students as very much part of the team. more…
