Centre for the Health of the Elderly
The brief here was to redesign and extend the existing Maternity Department at Newcastle General Hospital into four wards and three day centres for the care of the elderly.
The project required extensive remodelling and upgrading, with great care taken to ensure an appropriate environment for the elderly patients, many of whom have psychiatric problems.
The practice was subsequently invited to work on the Wolfson Research Centre, which forms an extension on the existing buildings. A light and airy entrance/reception area forms a circulation and orientation space for visitors and staff.
