Gibside
Much like our work with the Cragside Estate, our work on the Gibside Estate has been extensive and varied, outlined by our masterplanning advice on long-term plans and usage of the Estate and buildings and advice on a long term Conservation Strategy.
Our works have included environmental works and internal restoration of the Grade I* listed Chapel and external restoration of the stair and specialist structural stabilisation works, full stabilisation of the Grade II* listed Georgian Orangery to allow public access and an award winning restoration of the Grade II* listed Georgian stables, partly converted to provide exhibition and public interpretation space, residential accommodation and a warden's flat.
We have also conducted feasibility studies to determine the best future for the preservation of the Jacobean Scheduled Ancient Hall as well as detailed proposals for partial restoration and Project Management works to stabilise the remaining structure and fabric to allow public access. Tea Rooms - New, temporary (10 year), high specification, timber frame structure for National Trust Enterprises.
Outdoors, we have constructed new toilets in a woodland setting, for which _space received the 1999 "Loo of the Year" Award, as well as construction of temporary (10 year) tea rooms, built on behalf of National Trust Enterprises to high specification, using timber framing so that the project lies in sympathy with the grounds.
