Ormsby and Priory Woods Schools
_space designed these two Middlesbrough schools as part of a larger BSF bid. Ormsby Secondary School is located alongside Priory Woods SEN School, promoting the concept of the two schools “linking arms in seeking success”.
The design of the two schools reflects this concept. Ormsby faces out into the residential area surrounding the school, guarding Priory Woods and providing a stabilising, supporting environment for the 80-strong student body. There is a shared ‘heart’ that contains a dining hall, learning resources facility, the reception, administration and main halls of the schools, bringing them together as one.
Priory Woods’ layout is designed to allow way finding for the students; each area is a clearly delineated by colour so that classrooms can be easily distinguished from their own resource centre and other learning bases. Ormsby is designed to have flexible learning pods, adaptable to the needs of teachers and students alike, allowing Priory Woods students to work alongside Ormsby students and helping to unify learners across the spectrum of ability.
