Live Theatre
At the heart of the cultural renaissance of Newcastle’s Quayside, _space's redevelopment of the design for the Grade II* listed Live Theatre improved the existing facilities whilst extending into the adjacent former Maritime Museum.
The three phase expansion saw the early Georgian Trinity House Maritime Museum benefiting from an internal refurbishment, and includes a dramatic four-storey glass atrium containing lift and stair tower, providing access to all floors of both buildings and creating a central hub for theatre activities.
The scheme provides Live Theatre with an additional 11,000ft2, home to an ‘ideas factory’. The improved facilities now include a doubleheight rehearsal room and viewing gallery, areas dedicated to the development of new writing and additional office space for staff and freelance artists.
Meanwhile, complete refurbishment of the theatre’s current premises will result in a more spacious foyer, new box office, larger bar and restaurant and much improved auditorium with more comfortable seating, air conditioning and better views of the stage.
